Foreign Policy Talk Geo-economic turning point: a challenge for Germany
The global order is changing: old centres of power are losing influence, new players are emerging. These tectonic shifts in politics, economics and security also present Germany with new challenges.
Business journalist Michael Sauga (Der Frühling der Autokraten) and Prof. Dr Eberhard Sandschneider, Co-Chair of the Committee on International Politics and Economics, discuss new strategic perspectives on geoeconomics and geopolitics.
The first part of our Foreign Policy Talk series asks: What developments are shaping the new world order, and how can Germany redefine its role in it?
Look forward to an informative and inspiring evening that offers guidance in a fragmented world – and marks the start of Part II, which will focus on the economic consequences for businesses.
Please note that this event will take place in the Goldberger Saal at the VBKI: Fasanenstraße 85, 10623 Berlin.
The second part of this Foreign Policy Talk series will take place on 3 December at the International Club Berlin.
Heart attack – what now? Lecture & exercises
Dr Engin Osmanoglou, Chief Physician and Medical Director of the Clinic for Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Meoclinic, will give a lecture on a topic that can affect us all: heart attacks. He will provide fascinating and easy-to-understand insights into the causes, symptoms and modern treatment options for one of the most common cardiovascular diseases.
He will also explain how ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest occur and why quick action is vital in an emergency. After the lecture, you will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in a practical training session: you can practise emergency procedures on a resuscitation dummy and defibrillator and experience how crucial every second can be.

ICB Book Club
Anyone who not only enjoys reading books, but equally enjoys discussing them, is invited to attend the Book Club meeting, which is held on the first monday of every month.
Reading with Harald Martenstein
In a festive atmosphere, Harald Martenstein reads from his latest texts—as always, pointed, clever, and with subtle humor. His columns appear regularly in Die Zeit and Welt am Sonntag and have won numerous awards. His most recent publications are the books Es wird Nacht, Señorita (2024) and Alles im Griff auf dem sinkenden Schiff.
The focus of the evening will be his Christmas book Freuet Euch, Bernhard kommt bald! – Zwölf unweihnachtliche Weihnachtsgeschichten (Rejoice, Bernhard is coming soon! – Twelve un-Christmassy Christmas stories), a collection of bizarre, satirical tales with black humor and a surprising Christmas touch. One critic aptly summed it up: “A quirky pleasure that gently touches the heart.”
After the reading, we cordially invite you to a convivial conclusion with punch, Christmas cookies, and pre-Christmas cheer.
Of course, there will also be an opportunity to purchase books and have them signed on this evening – Harald Martenstein looks forward to talking with you personally.
We look forward to a special evening in your and his company—literary, personal, and with a touch of Christmas
The Reading is conducted in German Language

Coaching: Leading people in a motivating way – bosses and parents taking responsibility
People are willing to follow when leadership takes their wishes and needs into account appropriately. In fact, it is usually more a matter of not demotivating them. If bosses or parents as leaders can “read” and take seriously the individual personalities of the people entrusted to them, conflicts can usually be avoided.
In an interactive discussion, coach Wolf-Dietrich Groß provides insights into how motivation can be created and maintained – and what this has to do with self-motivation. After all, those who are not motivated also lack the strength to lead.
