The Start of the Pool Season
This year the ICB’s traditional season’s opening was celebrated on May 1 with a charity event: the proceeds went to the Jugend Kunstschule Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, an art school for young people which members of the ICB have been supporting over the past 12 months.
As a result, the guest of honour was “the blue shepherd” Rainer Bonk from the Lower Rhine region with his “peace flock” of 70 blue plastic sheep. Twenty percent of the proceeds of the sale of blue sheep went to the art school and the rest to supporting Mr Bonk’s unique art project, as he travels around the country promoting the European cause with his blue flock under the motto “Everyone is equal, everyone is important”.
Many thanks to all members: ten sheep were sold – and 250 euros went to the school!
Many thanks also to the blue shepherd, who gave away three sheep, one of them to the ICB!
And a very big thank-you to the Art School for Young People, who made a gift of the wonderful blue sculptures created at the ICB on May 1, in collaboration with children and adults, to the International Club Berlin – you can admire them any day in the garden!
Thanks to our club-members Manfred Koch und Moritz Krossa for their generous support!

The tennis courts and the swimming pool will be open to all members again after the long winter. We will celebrate the beginning of the summer season, undoubtedly the most attractive time of the year at the Club, with some live music and of course the first mixed tennis tournament of the season.
We celebrate the Season-opening with the "Blue-shepherd from the Lower Rhine with his flock of peace-sheeps", with a children-program and blue-sheep-auction!
This year's Season-opening in the name of the Blue Sheep is the prelude to one of this year's charity campaigns of the International Club Berlin! 10% of the proceeds of each sold sheep goes to the Children and Youth Art School Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, that will initiate an art-installation - all guests are invited to participate!
About the "Blue-shepherd from the Lower Rhine with his flock of peace-sheeps"
Blue is the color of the EU, the United Nations, UNESCO and the European peace movement. And it's the color of Rainer Bonk. The Rheinberger artist, whom many only call the "blue-beetle", travels across Europe with his blue peace herd. The blue polyester sheep graze in the public squares of European cities to look at the connecting. "Everyone is the same, everyone is important," is the motto of the art campaign, which began in Venice at the end of 2009. Since then, the Peace Sheep of Rainer Bonk has traveled over 70 cities.
Since 1998 he has dealt with art and action concepts in public spaces. For him, the idea behind the action is central. Due to their individual positioning in the herd, all animals behave differently, but in fact one sheep is exactly the same as the other. "Everybody understands this simple symbolism"
